Belly dance, as it is known in the US, is a dance whose origins we trace back over 2,000 years. Though what we see today is primarily a compilation of many cultures (Egyptian, Turkish, Persian, Lebanese, Armenian, Algerian, and Tunisian just to name a few) the message being felt and conveyed is universal- celebration, expression, community, and freedom. Join us in continuing the powerful lineage of this ancient art form.
Some people come to this dance for exercise, some for the release of tension. Some people dance for meditation, others to keep their joints from stiffening. It’s a big, full world, and as many people are here in it, are the numbers of reasons we dance.
Through this dance in particular, I have seen women find their own feminine qualities, what it is to them to be feminine. This is no small undertaking in a world where many women literally have to “wear the pants”, not just in our families, but in our workplaces as well. Each of use is different mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally and despite some similarities, we are all essentially “unique”. What it means to be feminine is also unique to each of us.
Belly dance lends itself perfectly to each of us in our own unique experience. While the feminine aspect is usually highlighted, it is a dance for everyone, women, men, and children. It is a dance for all peoples, all shapes, and all sizes. It is a dance for everyone.
Please take some time and see if it is for you!
