Nature First, Inc. located in Navarre, Florida, has been a federal 501(c)(3) non-profit animal rescue organization since August 2001. Mike and Karen have been taking in orphaned, injured and unwanted animals for approximately 10 years prior. Parrots being their priority and main focus.  Karen and her Husband, Mike, live in Navarre where they have made their home an animal rescue center. Their hope is to build a combined indoor/outdoor aviary so the birds will have a more natural life opposed to living in cages. Unfortunately, this requires a lot of money they don't have. Mike and Karen have been supporting the organization with their own paychecks, the monthly costs for food, supplies, vet bills etc. average $2,500.00 per month.  When they receive parrots which are adoptable, they will find good loving homes and spend time "training" the new parents. Anyone adopting a bird is required to undergo a home check and sign a contract, which states they will return the bird if things don't work for any reason. Most of the parrots they receive have behavioral problems stemming from neglect, abuse or just ignorance of the previous owners and are not adoptable and live at Nature First for the rest of their natural lives.
